Organization: Fort Houston
Job Title: co-owner
Industry: Visual Arts
Bio: Ryan Schemmel has spent most his life involved in the Nashville music scene. After traveling around a bit for school and post-college adventures, he returned to Nashville and found that he and Josh Cooper were both inspired by the same things: boredom and opportunity. They wanted to take their inspirations from time spent elsewhere and apply them to Nashville. In 2011, noticing a void between makers and opportunity, he started Fort Houston. He now spearheads new business opportunity and business operations.

Facilitators of Human Potential

At 1:45PM-2:30PM, in Illustration 3

Fort Houston is a place for you to facilitate, grow, learn and work. We occupy 10,000 square feet in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood of Nashville, TN, complete with a full-scale wood shop, print shop, metal shop, 3D printers, darkroom, and miscellaneous work and desk space. Here’s how it works: You pay a monthly membership fee, and you get to make things in here. Oh, and taking a class or two can be fun, too, but you don’t have to be a member to do that!
