Kat Jones

Kat

Organization: Abrasive Media
Bio: I am the Director of Community Development for Experimental Music at abrasiveMedia, an artist advocacy group in Nashville that works to create opportunities of growth and collaboration through community building. My goal is to create a sense of safety amongst some of the musicians and artists on the fringes of the community so that we may all feel a deeper sense of community and experience a safe environment to grow as artists and take deeper and greater risks, knowing that we will be championed in the process.

I am also the lead singer for a band called Kat Jones & the Prophets. In August 2016 we collaborated with FALL, a contemporary and aerial dance company, on a project called Dear Apocalypse. It was a meditation on surviving and overcoming trauma using music, dance, and poetry, which was performed at the Troutt Theater on August 5th and 6th for the Sideshow Fringe Festival in Nashville, TN.
