Bio: Van facilitates community input, artist selection, citizen selection panels, and artist contracts for multiple public art projects at Metro Arts. Prior to joining the agency in 2013, she attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied Studio Art and received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Van is a self-proclaimed crazy plant lady and board game enthusiast.

Learning to Listen: How to Build Healthier, More Equitable Communities

Launched in June of 2016, the Metro Arts’ Learning Lab is a professional development program designed to train Nashville-based artists in social, civic and placemaking practices. Artists from the inaugural Learning Lab class will discuss the various ways artists can work in community through a practice of listening and how their own practices have evolved since completing the training.
